Villa Almada is my private-pool villa in the garden of the Canto de Luz Boutique Maison, right in the heart of Porto. The same villa serves a family with small children on a school holiday, a couple celebrating an anniversary by the pool, and a group of friends taking over the whole property for a long weekend, without any of them having to compromise on what they came for. Here’s how Villa Almada is set up for the different stays guests come for.
Family stays in Porto
Family-ready means more than child-tolerant. Two super-king suites with ensuite bathrooms (each can split into two singles), a fully equipped kitchen for cooking with kids underfoot, two baby cots and high chairs available free, Kids Netflix on the smart TV, board games, an Xbox, and the popcorn machine that makes movie night feel like a proper holiday treat. The private pool is in your own garden.
Multigenerational stays
Grandparents, parents and kids under one roof, without the bathroom queue or the layout compromises that ruin a holiday. Each suite has its own ensuite. The open-plan kitchen-living-diner gives everyone somewhere to be together, while the garden and pool give the grandparents a quiet morning spot. Daily breakfast served means the grown-ups don’t have to be the first ones in the kitchen.
Group stays for friends
Up to 6 friends in one villa, with two super-king suites, ensuite bathrooms in each, and the pool and garden to yourselves. The kitchen-living-diner fits everyone, the smart TV and Netflix sort out the rainy-day evenings, and the Maison’s La Cuisine is a few steps across the garden for a proper breakfast without anyone having to host. Best for couples-of-friends groups.
Romantic & couples’ stays
Villa Almada works just as well for two as it does for six. Take the whole villa, swim in your own pool, eat breakfast in the garden, and use Porto for what it’s best at: Douro Valley wine days, fado evenings in Ribeira, port lodges across the river. The private-pool-in-Porto-centre combination is genuinely rare, and it’s what most of our anniversary and milestone bookings come for.
Anniversary, birthday & milestone stays
Villa Almada isn’t a function venue, it’s better than one. The villa hosts your group privately, the pool and garden are yours, and Porto’s best restaurants, bars and Douro day-trips are minutes away. Most milestone stays book the full villa for 3 to 5 nights so the celebration spreads across mornings by the pool, afternoons in Ribeira, and long evenings on the terrace.

Off-season & school-holiday stays
Porto in January and February is mild, quiet and the best value of the year. Easter, October half-term and Christmas all have their own charm, fewer queues at the port lodges, lighter Douro train tickets, mild outdoor lunches at the riverside. The pool is open seasonally, but the rest of the villa is at its most enjoyable when Porto is calm.
